Thoughts on Buy Nothing Day
After seeing the promotion for buy nothing day i thought to myself would people actually consider doing something like that? i know if ihad moneyfor the most recent black-friday, i wouldnt have followed on it. Knowing how americans are, especially New Yorkers, most of us will taakke advantaage of a good sale over a nice day out anyday. I tried to take a second and picture whatthe world would look like if absolutely everyone decided not to make one single purchase, and i couldnt do it. i didnt ake advantage of any sales this year, im sure if i had the money i would have, but when i heard abt the whole wal-mart incident after the day was done with, it seemed kind of typical and expecting. On thanksgiving day, just before, i was watching a countdown of 50 most outrageous shopping moments, and saw footage clips of many similar experiences as to what happend on this years black-friday. i jumped to the countdown kinda late but when i did catch it on, it was funny now that i think abt it, there were so many wal-marts in other states that had fights or wreckless endangerment due to those sales. Some that never even made it out the lobby. i thught that was funny seeing how someone can wait all these hours outside of a convenient store just to get into a physical fight just once u step foot into the lobby. there were also police present, right in the lobby but they just stood and watched, also have being caught on footage. There were a couple best-buy incidents here or there too.

response to the walmart incident
My thoughts to the walmart incident when having a first reaction made me review everything we've learned in this course. All this talk about how the american way of life is viewed just keeps becoming more familiar to me along time. Matierialism is something that we havent fully talked about so far, but is often brought up or is connected to what we discuss. but it played a huge role in what caused the whole thing. it showed what people will do to be one of the first to get a hand on the newest thing out there. To me i believe the worst effect of not being able to purchase a television, is that u would be forced to keep your original one. Those people ran around wrecklessly as if they were apart of something big and life-changing. Someone in my course mentioned something funny during class-discussion that i didnt even think about based on the incident. he said that something like this shows how desperate americans are to these bargains due to the fact that they were able to live with their being a part of a killing so that they can in the end win the reward of being able to purchase something. another person shared his question of, how can someone go home and watch the nightly news to see on it the face of the person u just helped to kill on the tv u got because of it. i think that the behavior shown at that sales event by those people fit the description or look that i would automatically expect from them based on relations to american movies and shows.
